Who she is

Louisa moved to Charlottesville from Boston in 1997 "just for a year" but, as they say, she got hooked. After seven years teaching high school English and journalism, she is now the owner and designer of her own line of greeting cards (weehah!). Her favorite things about this place: music, friends, restaurants, views, and its ability to turn from a red state to one that's true blue.

Just before graduate school, Louisa was the lead vocalist in a band that performed in the New England area. Since then, she's enjoyed performing as a lead or background vocalist at coffeehouses, weddings, and jazz concerts from Virginia to Vermont. She first appeared at Gravity Lounge in March 2004.

Currently, she sings with two bands. She formed The Alternators in January 2007 and they have a great time playing yummy acoustic covers, mostly in the Americana, bluegrass/newgrass, swing-with-twangy realm. Think guitars, mandolin, upright bass, dobro, pedal steel, percussion, and lots of vocal harmony. She now also sings with BluesJam, which is, in a nutshell, the opposite. Think many guitars, saxophone, keyboards, and sexy bluestunes with lots of soul.

Call it the yin and the yang. Louisa calls it dreamy.
